The Last Record Company
The Last Record Company
Rune Kristoffersen is the person behind the connoisseur music label Rune Grammofon. Rune Grammofon releases quality contemporary Norwegian music in all types of genres. Kristoffersen approached MVM to be the designer for his new label The Last Record Company late 2008. This label can be seen more as a project (and a prolongation of Rune Grammofon) than a regular record label. Kristoffersen and MVM works with each release as an 'object'. The album release is seen as two autonomous entities (music and packaging). To enhance the 'object-feel' there is no information on either the sleeve or the vinyl label. The artwork is not connected to the music, just as the music isn't influenced by the artwork. Each release is a 12" vinyl gatefold printed in a run of 500 copies, hand numbered and offered exclusively on vinyl format. A 16 page art booklet accompanies each release. Given the strict rules and focusing on expensive packaging, the record company is created to die eventually. The project is to see how long a vinyl record company can exist alongside the digitalization of music.
In addition to the music artwork, MVM makes limited screen prints and similar collectables. See Galore, Renditions and Cyborgic for artwork examples.
