Life in 2010
As a parallel event to the 9th Sci-Fi London Film Festival, design studio Transmission set up an exhibition showcasing 22 international image makers at Proud Central Gallery in London. Each invited artist was to depict or work with the subject of how the future will be in the year 2050. All work was created in A2 format.
This is the text that was written for the poster: 'One of Dada artist Jean Arp's shapes from the artwork 'Moustaches et squellettes' can be seen in this silk screened piece, entitled 'The Shape of Things to Come'. The title is taken from H.G. Well's science fiction work from 1933 by the same name, but thematically refers to the 1982 sci-fi horror movie 'The Thing'. In this movie an extra-terrestrial parasite morphs its hosts into any desired grotesque shape. Together, these references point out that things often go in cycles, reinvents itself, just like Arp's work has been re-used in this piece. The Arp shape springing out of the hand is also a wink to future technology that might be of a more organic type.'
Other invited image makers was Universal Everything, Alex Trochut, Dan McPharlin, Mario Hugo and Tom Gallant.
The signed limited edition silk screened poster can be bought online at the Life in 2050 website. Limited to 50 posters.
