Chaumont
Chaumont International Poster Festival
Designer, author, publisher and design critic Adrian Shaughnessy curated an exhibition that was part of the 21st International Poster Festival in Chaumont, France. He invited about 30 designers and illustrators from around the world to each create a poster in A0 (841 x 1189mm) format which was then displayed on huge concrete tubes that was spread around the town.
The poster created for this exhibition was based on the work of modernist Olle Bærtling and a classic male fashion pose. In the non-figarutive abstract tradition, Bærtling's paintings have no story or message to tell. The fashion industry on the other hand frantically tries to convince the spectator that they and their products are based on traditions, stories and values. Posters are primarely a medium for statements and announcements. This poster shows the conflict of one party that has nothing to say, while the other party desperately wants to.
The 2010 Chaumont International Poster Festival was held 29th of May to 20th of June.
